An IPTV channel is a continuous video stream broken into small segments and sent over the internet using standard streaming protocols — your player app requests the current segment, decodes it, and displays it, repeating continuously to create the effect of a live broadcast.

From broadcast to stream

A live broadcast signal is captured, encoded into a compressed digital format, and split into a sequence of short segments (typically a few seconds each). Those segments are made available on a server that your player app connects to.

What your player app does

The app continuously requests the next segment in the sequence, downloads it, and decodes it for playback — all fast enough that it looks like one continuous stream rather than a series of downloaded clips. This is the same underlying approach (HLS or similar segmented streaming) used by most major video platforms, not something unique to IPTV.

Why this affects buffering and quality
