5 Ways to Improve Streaming Quality
Reviewed by the RokuStream team ·
1. Switch to a 5GHz Wi-Fi band if your router supports it — it's less crowded than 2.4GHz and typically faster for video streaming.
2. Close other devices actively streaming or downloading on the same network, especially during a live event when everyone in the house wants the TV on.
3. Lower the stream quality setting in your player app one notch if buffering happens repeatedly — a stable 1080p stream beats a stuttering 4K one.
4. Restart your streaming device periodically. Like any device, performance can degrade the longer it runs without a restart.
5. Use a wired ethernet connection where possible, especially for a permanently placed device like a streaming box connected to your main TV.
If none of these help, our full buffering troubleshooting guide covers deeper causes.
